Lil Uzi Vert Prepped for the Met Gala by Heading to the Diamond District
Lil Uzi Vert is not afraid of stealing the scene. The 26-year-old is known for his bold style, which includes blindingly bright and contrasting colors and head-turning prints. For the 2021 Met gala, he worked with Thom Browne, a longtime collaborator, to create yet another risk-taking sartorial move: a distressed suit with a pleated skirt.
But before he got dressed up, Lil Uzi Vert dished a bit to Vogue on his style. Despite his hometown of Philadelphia not being “too accepting of new stuff,” he found his own signature style. “The way I pick my fit out...you just reach and grab and put anything on,” he says. One thing he put on for the Met gala? Diamonds. (At one point, he actually had a $24 million jewel implanted in his forehead.) Early on Monday he went to Eliantte & Co. in the Diamond District to look at some rocks to add to his ensemble.
When he’s ready to head out, he’s looking as Lil Uzi Vert as ever in his Thom Browne skirt and a neck full of diamonds. Plus he’s in great company: Erykah Badu—or rather, “Big E,” as he calls her. Not a bad way to start the night.
