Lizzo and Cardi B Transform Into Grecian Goddesses for “Rumors”

On Lizzo’s first single in two years, she paired up with Cardi B for a gold-plated fashion fantasy.

The rumors are true. Lizzo has made her return today with her first new single in two years—and in the grandest of style. The joyous new track “Rumors” is a collaboration with her Hustlers co-star Cardi B and is packed with everything you could possibly want from Lizzo: triumphant horns, a brilliantly funky bassline, and more juicy one-liners than you can shake a stick at. “If you thought that I was ratchet with my ass hangin’ out,” she sings on the chorus, “just wait until the summer when they let me out the house, bitch!”

It isn’t just the song to get excited about, either. Yesterday night, the pair dropped a spectacular, cinematic video to accompany the track featuring themselves as Grecian goddesses stalking the sunny heights of Mount Olympus. (Should we consider this an unofficial audition for Lizzo and Cardi B to play the muses in the upcoming live-action remake of Hercules?)

Working with her stylist Brett Alan Nelson, Lizzo appears first in a draped golden gown and dripping in enough chunky gold jewelry to dazzle even the most decadent of Greek rulers. She then switches into a diamanté-studded, flesh-colored bodysuit covered in motifs inspired by ancient vases, with two carefully-placed Greek key scrolls on the chest. Cardi, meanwhile, sports a custom golden breastplate designed by Misha Japanwala—the artist behind the piece Cardi was styled in by Kollin Carter for her pregnancy announcement back in June—with Schiaparelli earrings and a custom golden chain across her belly by Laurel DeWitt. She wraps it all up with a dance with Lizzo wearing a gloriously OTT headpiece featuring a sparkling column capital.

It’s an irresistible, gold-dipped visual feast and proof (if you needed it) that Lizzo is not only back—this time, she means business.
