Meet Izaak Adu-Watts, the Breakout Model From Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty Show

The son of legendary soul singer Sade, Adu-Watts is already making appearances on magazine covers and the Burberry runway.

Last week, Rihanna premiered volume three of her Savage x Fenty film series in typically ambitious style. With a star-studded lineup featuring Normani, Irina Shayk, Gigi Hadid, Lourdes Leon, and Cindy Crawford, the eye-popping spectacle served up fashion-forward lingerie and a sense of inclusivity that has become the brand’s calling card. Between the adrenaline-pumping performances and runway walks, however, there was a striking new face to note: model Izaak Adu-Watts.

Adu-Watts may be a relative newcomer to the industry, having signed to Next Models in 2019, but there’s every chance you might have seen his face before. (And not just because of the passing resemblance to his mother, the iconic soul musician Sade.) You might recognize him from his runway debut for Riccardo Tisci at Burberry during London Fashion Week last February, and the subsequent campaign he starred in for the storied British fashion house, or even his appearances on the covers of magazines including M Le Monde and 10. Despite these high-profile bookings, though, Adu-Watts’s nascent career was put on hold with the start of the global pandemic. Until he made his return in a silk pajama set and boxing shorts for Savage x Fenty, that is.

“I’m still like, wait, hang on,” says Adu-Watts of the experience, laughing. “Did that really just happen?” When he first received the email inviting him to join the show, he was skeptical if it was a legitimate request. “I couldn’t believe it, I was just so excited,” he says, describing the atmosphere on set as electric. “I’ve been the biggest Rihanna fan for so long. There was such amazing energy, you couldn’t help but smile,” he adds.
