A rep for the duchess released a statement.
Meghan Breaks Silence on Claims She Changed Her Name on Archie's Birth Certificate
Unsurprisingly, a new tabloid story has popped up about Meghan Markle. The Sun reported on January 30 the Duchess of Sussex changed her name on Archie's birth certificate, erasing “Rachel Meghan” and leaving only “Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex.” The certificate was registered on May 17, 2019, but this change happened on June 5, 2019, according to The Daily Beast.
In typical tabloid fashion, The Sun alleged this was some kind of slight against Kate Middleton, who Us Weekly reports has included her name on her children's birth certificates. There were even rumors Markle did this as a hat-tip to Princess Diana, who, per Us, is attributed as Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales on Prince William and Prince Harry's birth certificates.
But Markle isn't here for the speculation. Her rep released a charged statement shutting the nonsense down. It was apparently submitted to a number of publications after The Sun ran its story, and Harper's Bazaar editor Omid Scobie shared the full thing on Twitter.:

“The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials. This was not requested by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex nor by The Duke of Sussex," it reads. "To see this U.K. tabloid and their carnival of so-called ‘experts’…whip this into a calculated family ‘snub’ and suggest that she would oddly want to be nameless on her child's birth certificate…would be laughable were it not offensive."
The statement continues, ”There's a lot going on in the world; let's focus on that rather than creating clickbait."
With the use of the word “dictated” and phrases like “carnival of so-called ‘experts,’" it appears the Sussexes are a little peeved by this whole situation. And we don't blame them if that's the case. As the statement said, there are way more important things to be worrying about…like, ya know, the global pandemic.
