Lady Whistledown would approve.
Nicola Coughlan's Golden Globes Look Is Straight Out of 'Bridgerton'
Nicola Coughlan, a.k.a Penelope Featherington on Bridgerton, picked a dress for the 2021 Golden Globes that Lady Whistledown would approve of.
For the big night, the actor opted for a pastel yellow Molly Goddard dress with an empire waist and large skirt. The entire outfit is serving major Regency-era London vibes, which, of course, is when Bridgerton takes place. And fans of the Netflix drama will know that this shade of yellow was a color Coughlan's character wore often throughout the series.
Nicola Coughlan is without a doubt one of the breakout stars of Bridgerton, which is based on Julia Quinn's hit novel series and follows the affluent Bridgerton siblings as they try to find love in the 1800s. Coughlan plays Penelope, the youngest sibling in the Featherington family.
The Netflix show is now a full-blown phenomenon, and it's been praised by fans and critics alike for its diversity. “You know the way some people were like ‘Diversity in period drama doesn’t work’....63 million households thought it did tho so,” Coughlan tweeted in early January, referring to the massive numbers Bridgerton brought in after only four weeks.
Naturally, a second season is already in the works. “I feel like we’ve established this big world, so I’d love to explore more of it," Coughlan told Radio Times. “I feel like we’ve established this big world, so I’d love to explore more of it.”
Her costar Regé-Jean Page (Simon) told Oprah magazine, “I think there are a lot of good stories to be told in this world. There’s a plethora of characters, and each of those characters has cousins, uncles, and dogs, and I think people enjoy exploring all of those depths and nooks and crannies.”
Production on the second season begins this spring in London. “I’ve been writing it. I know where we’re going,” showrunner and executive producer Chris Van Dusen said in January. “We’ll be introducing a bunch of new characters. Anthony will have a love interest next season, and it will be as sweeping and as beautiful as viewers came to expect from the first season.”
