Now This Is How You Wear Pajamas to an Awards Show

With feathers, florals, and sequins, Emerald Fennell makes loungewear black tie ready.

The idea of wearing pajamas to the red carpet would have been a major taboo just two years ago. But when awards shows became mostly virtual affairs, the dress code was blown wide open. The Emmys in 2020 even told guests to “come as they are,” leaving the door open for celebs to show up in their best flannels. And tonight at the Critics Choice awards, Emerald Fennell showed everyone how you wear loungewear to a black tie event. The actor/director, who is nominated for both best director and best original screenplay for Promising Young Woman, leaned into the luxurious nature of a silk pajama set.

Hers was a bright floral set Richard Quinn, festooned with black feathers at the cuffs. She paired it with a sparkly minaudiere in the shape of a soda from Judith Leiber and Aquazurra heels. The sparkles, the silk, the feathers were all balanced out by the laid-back silhouette, making for a dynamic red carpet look. As far as party outfits go, this is a clear winner.
