Paris Jackson’s “Rock Royalty” Tee Is a Perfect Fashion Throwback
At first glance, Paris Jackson’s look for the Stella McCartney show today at Paris Fashion Week was charmingly casual. Consisting of a one-shoulder tee, baggy nylon cargo pants, a pair of platform heel brogues, and one of McCartney’s signature vegan leather bags, the outfit perfectly reflected Jackson’s laid-back, California-inflected style. Look a little closer, however, and you’ll notice a playful throwback. Her tee, reading “Rock Royalty,” paid homage not only to her father Michael Jackson, but also to McCartney herself.
Back in 1999, McCartney, daughter of Beatles star Paul McCartney, and Liv Tyler, daughter of Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler, showed up to the rock-themed Met Gala in the same shirt. The now-iconic looks were originally a pair of Hanes tank tops that McCartney took to Little Italy on the morning of the event to have customized. “I didn’t come at it intentionally to be rebellious at all,” McCartney told Vogue about the look last year. “I didn’t know what people wore!” And who better to pick up the torch of McCartney’s renegade, rock dynasty style than Paris Jackson?
