Prince Harry May Have Been Holding onto His Daughter's Name For Two Years

Baby Lili was born on June 4.

It turns out, Prince Harry may have been thinking about the name “Lili” for quite some time.

On June 6, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the arrival of their second child, a baby girl named Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.  In the official statement, it was revealed that their daughter is named after two of the most important women in Prince Harry's life: his mother and grandmother.

"Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home," the statement read, per People. "Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales."

But this wasn't the first time the name Lili, specifically, has come up. Back in 2019, when Markle was still pregnant with Archie, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex discussed baby names at a meeting with school children.

One child in attendance just-so-happened to be named Lily. According to People, Harry showed particular interest in the name and asked her mother how she chose to spell it.

The parents of two have not shared a photo of baby Lili, but have requested that anyone hoping to send gifts think about donating to charitable organizations benefiting women and girls. “On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili," they wrote. "She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”
