Prince William Is Reportedly ‘Very Protective’ of Kate Middleton in Wake of Oprah Tell-All

Prince William “can get very angry,” says a royals expert.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey continues to make waves within the royal family. According to royals experts, Kate Middleton and Prince William aren't happy Markle opened up about the Duchess of Cambridge during the two-hour chat. Specifically, Markle said the rumor that she made Middleton cry in 2018 was actually the other way around.

"The reverse happened," Markle told Winfrey. “And I don't say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something. But she owned it, and she apologized and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing."

Now, we're learning a little more about what's reportedly happening behind-the-scenes post-interview. "William is very protective of Kate and can get very angry," Penny Junor, a respected biographer of both Prince William and Prince Harry, tells People. "For Meghan to name Kate in a negative light is worse than being attacked himself."

Prince William broke his silence earlier this month about the interview while speaking to a reporter. “We are very much not a racist family,” he told Sky News on March 11, following Markle opening up about the treatment she's faced from the press. (The Duchess of Sussex also says there were conversations within the royal family while she was pregnant about the potential color of Archie's skin.)

Additional clips from the Winfrey-Markle-Prince Harry interview were released on CBS This Morning the day after. In one of them, Markle explains how her treatment from the press is very different than Middleton's experience. "Kate was called 'Waity Katie,' waiting to marry William," Markle said. "While I imagine that was really hard—and I do, I can't picture what that felt like—this is not the same. And if a member of his family will comfortably say, 'We've all had to deal with some things that are rude,' rude and racist are not the same."
