“I think she was taken aback.”
Rami Malek Recalls the Time He Caught Kate Middleton ‘Off Guard’ at an Event
Because he's starred in movies beloved by the British public, like 2019's Bohemian Rhapsody and 2021's No Time to Die, Rami Malek has had a few run-ins with the royal family. And in a new interview with Jimmy Kimmel, he's giving details—specifically, how he caught Kate Middleton “off guard” one time.
It happened at the 2019 BAFTAs. “I had some familiarity with Princess Kate and Prince William,” he said. “We had a little chat. What's fascinating is they work so hard to get to know everybody, whatever film they've done, their past films. You can see they've done their homework. And I just looked at Princess Kate at one point and said, ‘This must be exhausting.’ She said, ‘Why?’ And I said, ‘You just had a baby, right?’ And I think she was taken aback. She's like, ‘How are you doing?’ And I said, ‘How are you doing?’”
He continued, “In the most regal, elegant way, she gave me a look. But you could tell. Imagine: You're dressed to the nines, have to talk to all these actors…. They're so careful, but it was so cool, because I think I caught her off guard for a second. I [got] that look in the most elegant, professional, royal way, [she said], ‘Yes, it’s a lot having a kid.’”
Rami Malek then took things a step further and offered to babysit if Middleton and Prince William needed the day off. “I'm backup for you,” he recalls telling Middleton. “She's like, ‘What do you mean?’ I go, ‘I can babysit. You guys go out, have a good time.’”
Now that's a TV show I'd literally pay money to watch: celebrities taking turns babysitting the Cambridge children, Princess Charlotte, Prince George, and Prince Louis. I wonder what the babysitter perks are at the Cambridge home. Do Will and Kate have a stocked fridge? All the streaming channels? I need answers.
