Rihanna Paired a Black T-Shirt With a Sheer Skirt for the Met Gala After-Party

Love this look.

Rihanna made a dramatic entrance at the 2021 Met gala, arriving last on the carpet in a black Balenciaga number. And she continued the drama after the big event, hitting a Met gala after-party in a simple black T-shirt paired with a sheer black skirt. Now, this is how you style a T-shirt. Did you expect Rihanna to deliver anything less than perfection?

Rihanna was clearly digging the flapper aesthetic here. Her jewelry choice were very 1920s, as was the sheer black cap she topped the look off with. As for her shoes, she opted for simple black sandals—a smart move, because in New York, September is usually the last month you can wear summery footwear. The cold weather is coming, my friends.

The Met gala looked a bit different this year. For one, it happened in September, as opposed to its usual first-Monday-in-May time slot. The COVID-19 pandemic postponed the annual gala, which benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. There were also strict coronavirus guidelines in place at the party; attendees had to be vaccinated and wear their masks indoors.

The 2021 Met gala theme was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” which paid tribute to American style. “I’ve been really impressed by American designers’ responses to the social and political climate, particularly around issues of body inclusivity and gender fluidity, and I’m just finding their work very, very self-reflective,” Andrew Bolton, the Wendy Yu curator in charge of the Costume Institute, told Vogue. “I really do believe that American fashion is undergoing a renaissance. I think young designers in particular are at the vanguard of discussions about diversity and inclusion, as well as sustainability and transparency, much more so than their European counterparts, maybe with the exception of the English designers.”
