Rihanna Shows How Clashing Prints Are Done

It’s all about the artful mix-and-match.

These days, a Rihanna spotting is as rare as catching a glimpse of a Stresemann’s Bristlefront (the world’s rarest bird, that is). But lucky for us, the superstar was caught heading to dinner in Santa Monica, California last night, sporting a wildly fun look for the occasion. If you’ve ever been curious on how to clash prints in an artful way, look at Rih.

Separately, each piece seems to be polar opposites, but when combined, they somehow live together harmoniously. She paired a cheetah-print leopard coat with a red and black patterned dress. Then, her monogrammed Fendi bag with red trim added even more prints to the look.  Cool accessories, meanwhile, such as an R13 dad cap, chain necklaces, and strappy sandals gave it a paparazzi-ready finish.

Mix-and-matching prints that seemingly don’t go together, but do, is a huge runway trend this season that has been seen at shows such as Marine Serre, Anna Sui, and Chopova Lowena. So, the next time you’re needing outfit inspiration? Just do like Rihanna and just clash a bunch of patterns together. Just make sure the colors are all in the same color family, like she did. You may not be able to be Rihanna, but you can do the next best thing and imitate her on-trend styling tricks!
