Rihanna Wears Her Cult Sweatpants With Heels, Of Course

There’s a perfect going-out top in the mix too.

Last night, after leaving the restaurant Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, Rihanna stepped out in a head-turning mix of It items. Sure, there was her on-trend crop top that showed a sliver of midriff, her striped green and white mohair cardigan, and her hulking brown aviator jacket with a shearling lining. But it was what she was wearing below that served as the true standout: the ultimate lockdown combo of a pair of baggy sweatpants with sleek white heels. (Rihanna has long been an advocate for the sweatpants and stiletto combo, often arriving at airports in a gray pair with spindly Manolos, or a furry pair of navy sweats with knife-sharp pumps.)

As for these sweatpants? They weren’t just any old pair, but something a bit more elevated. Rihanna opted for a design featuring dreamy, trippy illustrations by the cult label Brain Dead. The independent brand, made up of a collective of designers and artists, is known for its punk and skateboarding-inspired graphics. Along with their own collections, they’ve worked with the likes of The North Face and A.P.C. to put their grunge-minded spin on fashion, earning an avid following in the process. And given Rihanna’s track record supporting lesser-known brands, this likely won’t be the last time we see her in some Brain Dead garb—with coordinating heels, of course.
