Ryan Reynolds Sent His Three Daughters the Sweetest Message on ‘Good Morning America’

Ryan Reynolds appeared on Good Morning America August 4 to promote his new movie Free Guy, and during the chat he gave a shout-out to his three daughters, Inez, James, and Betty.

“Today was the first day they were like, ‘You’re gonna be on TV today?’” Reynolds told the GMA hosts when asked whether his kids are aware of his and wife Blake Lively's fame. “I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m going on Good Morning America.’ They're like, ‘What's good about it?’”

Reynolds said his daughters then asked if he could give them a shout-out on the show. “I was like, ‘Sure, I'll say hi to you guys.’ But they wanted me to pull my ear to say hello.” Translation: Betty, Inez, and James wanted Reynolds to send them secret signals on GMA. Honestly, a brilliant suggestion.

“Nezzie [Inez] wanted me to rub [my sleeve],” Reynolds continued. “And I was like, ‘Is Robin Roberts gonna be stealing second base?’” To this, the GMA cohosts, including Roberts, burst into laughter. Reynolds then looked to the camera and said to his daughters, “Hi, guys! How are you? Hello!”

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively keep their family life private for the most part, but they've opened up about parenthood in the past. For example, in June, Reynolds talked about how his daughters inspired him to be more transparent about his mental health

“Part of it is that I have three daughters at home, and part of my job as a parent is to model behaviors and model what it’s like to be sad and model what it’s like to be anxious or angry. That there’s space for all these things,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “The home that I grew in, that wasn’t modeled for me, really. And that’s not to say that my parents were neglectful, but they come from a different generation.”
