Saweetie Swears By This Vitamin C Serum for ‘Dewy, Glowy’ Skin

Plus, the rapper shares her favorite nail polishes, highlighter, and the cleansers she can't live without.

Life seems to be going pretty well for rapper, Saweetie. She has a new single—“Best Friend” with Doja Cat—off her upcoming album, Pretty Bitch Music; a recent cameo on the Freeform series, Grownish; 10 million plus loyal Instagram followers, and now, a partnership with nail polish beauty brand SinfulColors as their new brand ambassador.

“Ever since I was a little girl, maybe 13 or 14, I used to go to the Walgreens, and buy SinfulColors," she tells Glamour from Los Angeles. “Their nails were super affordable, so I have been wearing them for a really long time. It's a full-circle moment. The little girl in me is just so happy and grateful.”

And savvy. The 27-year-old studied business and communications in college, but could have never imagined she'd get to partner on a campaign with a company that meant so much to her growing up. “It’s a different type of connection,” she says.

Saweetie will eventually design collections for SinfulColors, but at the moment she's enjoying mixing and matching their new line of shades (Essenchills, Sheer mattes, and the new Claws designs). “I change my nail color at least once a week to make sure it’s matching with my outfit, so I love that their new collections literally have a color for any mood you’re in,” she says. "Today I’m a little chill, so I'm wearing Bath Goals and Coffee Drip. One color per hand.”

But as detailed as Saweetie's nail habit is, it's nothing compared to the rest of her routine, which she is refreshingly real about (she says it takes two and a half hours to get ready). So what part of her routine is worth the extra time, and what isn't? We asked her all that and more of our latest round of Glamour's Big Beauty Questions.

What's one beauty trend you’re obsessed with right now?

Definitely baby hairs. I’m the baby hair princess! It’s a trend I’ve been wearing since I was a little girl.

Do you have a brush you really like in order to get your desired look?

Colgate toothbrushes. They have the best brushes for baby hairs. Who knew, right?

What's the best beauty advice your mom ever gave you?

To wash my face and brush my teeth before I go to sleep. When I went to college and was living in the dorms, I realized not everyone does that, but I’m glad that I did, because my skin is so flawless. I always use a makeup removing balm so it won’t pull my skin down. I’m all into beauty care so I don’t have to get Botox or something. Not that I have a problem with that, but if I can hold off, then great.

Fill in the blank: I love my hair…

I love my hair when it’s nice and flow-y.

Which city or country gives you the biggest beauty inspiration?

I think L.A. I grew up a tomboy, so when I came to L.A., there are some big girls out here doing big fashion things, big face, pretty hair, etc., so I think it kind of just prepped me to be a glamour girl. Because if it were up to me, I’d be wearing a tank top and cargo pants to the club. But once I realized there’s more to fashion beyond that type of outfit, that’s what made me really want to step my game up.

If you could only use three beauty products the rest of your life, what would they be?

Definitely some facial cleanser, because you've got to take the dirt off. I’m hella oily and high maintenance—I have to be otherwise I’ll break out. I love Herbivore's Pink Cloud, Tatcha and Ole Henriksen. I'd also want some toner. I love the one from Origins. And then I would pick Ole Henriksen's vitamin C serum because it makes my skin so dewy and glowy.

How much time do you spend getting ready?

You know what? I used to get ready really quick, but once I realized that I do need a lot of time to perfect the brow or the contour, I would say a good two and a half hours. But it only takes me five minutes to get it all off.

Screw, marry, kill: mascara, lipstick, highlighter.

Definitely killing lipstick, because I’m a lip gloss girl. I’m marrying me a good, dewy highlighter, and then I'd screw some mascara.

Speaking of highlighter, tell me your favorite one, because your skin is glowing.

How do you keep your hair in great shape?

Honestly, my hair is in horrible shape right now, so I’m trying to get it back to life by doing deep conditioning treatments. I switch my hair so much that I’m shampooing, rinsing, conditioning, and then hopping in and out of hairstyles, so my hair is mad at me right now. I gotta make her happy again and give her some love.

What is your go-to perfume and why?

It’s a magic potion that I created in a kitchen. So if I tell you, it’s not gonna be a secret any more. The plan is to sell it one day.

What's your favorite emoji?

My favorite emoji is the shhh! It’s just a really funny emoji and every time I use it I crack myself up. It’s not the one I use the most, but definitely my favorite because it’s just funny to me.

If you could change one thing about beauty perceptions what would it be?

It would be to keep everyone’s opinions to themselves, because what a girl does to her face is her business.

Who are the women inspiring you the most right now?

The women in my family. My mom, my grandmothers, my aunties. I come from such a strong village of women. They’re always sending me encouraging words through text messages. They’re the reason for who I am today, so without them, who knows what Saweetie would be.
