And how fashion's given her confidence.
Selena Gomez Opened Up About Her Experience With ‘Fluctuating Weight’
Like many of us, Selena Gomez has a complicated relationship with her body. As someone in the public eye, the actor-singer is constantly attending red-carpet events where the pressure to look and feel confident is sky-high. But thankfully, she works with a team that helps her feel incredible—no matter what.
“I fluctuate a lot with my weight,” Gomez says in a recent video for Vogue in which she breaks down some of her most iconic looks over the years. Pointing to a picture of herself in a white Vera Wang column gown at the 2015 Met Gala, she says, “I remember this night, specifically, I didn’t feel good about my body, so what was really amazing was I got a chance to work on a dress that fit my body.”
She continues, “I had such a beautiful time shaping this dress. I think that we came together and built something really beautiful and that fit me really well…. That was one of the first moments where I was like, I don’t have to be that 19-year-old body shape anymore, because I’m not.”
Later, referencing a picture taken in 2019 at the New York premiere of the movie The Dead Don't Die, Gomez says, “This was also a moment in my life when I had fluctuated in weight, and I’m very honest with the people on my team, so I didn’t want to wear anything tight. And then I tried this dress on, and I felt so beautiful.”
She also pointed out that while the black Celine dress may have been loose in some places, it certainly highlighted her cleavage. Hey, if you’ve got it, and you feel comfortable, flaunt it.
