Serena Williams Says Olympia Loves Playing With Her Makeup

Serena Williams is the greatest athlete of all time, happily married to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and the mother of the cutest daughter, Olympia. She is, simply put, successful AF. 

But it's not easy to be this accomplished; it takes hard work, dedication, and passion for your craft. It also takes, according to Williams, joy. Williams's genuine love for tennis fuels her, and it's in part why she's so successful. “You have to love it or you're not going to be good at it," she tells Glamour. "If you don't love it, and you're not having fun at it, it's not going to be worth it." 

Williams makes sure to have fun off the court too, which we see in a new Super Bowl commercial for Michelob ULTRA. The spot features her and other top athletes toasting to their accomplishments—literally. For Williams, that involves kicking back with friends, a few drinks, and karaoke. (Remember karaoke bars? Sigh.) Good times like these only motivate Williams to work harder.

“I'm a firm believer that winning is only worth it if you enjoy leading up to it," she says. “For me, it's super important to prioritize happiness in your path to success or else you won't be successful.”

Michelob ULTRA, water, and Gatorade. I like to stay hydrated. Super Bowl season for me is usually workout season, or I'm playing tournaments. (Williams has a partnership with Gatorade and her own Gx Squeeze Bottle.)

Nachos. Nacho dip. Guacamole. Lots of chips. I love chips; that's my thing. I'm a chip connoisseur. I've met maybe two or three chips I don't like. 

My PJs are most comfortable. They match Olympia's. They're really cool; there are rainbows on them, and then there are one with avocados. They're super comfortable. 

I like anything that's popular, so right now a Super Bowl party playlist would feature Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B. A little Justin Bieber. He has a good album out now. Whatever's popular is always on the playlist. 

MAC lipstick. I mix so many colors to create the perfect color. I mix reds with browns. I'll mix that with a gloss but a very light gloss because I like more of a matted look. I've never found that perfect color, so I'm always mixing different brands and different colors to find the Serena color. Usually a brown-ish, purple-y, reddish tint. 

I also need my concealer. Right now, I'm between a Kat Von D and a Bobbi Brown. I use Bobbi Brown's foundation as a concealer. Very weird, but it's just what I do. I mix so many things to find the right thing that works for me, but I use the Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick as a concealer.

Olympia plays with my makeup! I have my wig heads, because we all wear wigs now. Olympia takes the heads and she decorates them with makeup. It's kind of hilarious what my wig room looks like because it's just, like, they look like clowns! She loves my lipstick, and it's gotten to be a problem. She likes the bright, bright pink tones and the bright, bright red that stains. It's been hard! It's been really hard, but she loves that and cannot stay out of that. She used to put on my heels all the time, but now my heels are higher in my closet, so she doesn't reach for those anymore. She just reaches for all my makeup. 

Obviously, Nike, of course. They always have some latest, great thing from Off-White they partnered with to do. I wear heels a lot. I'm obsessed with Stuart Weitzman. They're comfortable; I can wear them whenever I go to dinner. I can wear them all night. It's great. 

I'm really expanding my shoe inventory, not that it needed to be expanded at all. COVID has everyone bored and shopping more than they should. (Williams has worked with both Nike and Stuart Weitzman.)

Everyone's into this Bridgerton. I haven't watched that yet. So maybe that.
