Simone Biles Got Candid About Not Having Her ‘Best’ Day at the 2021 Olympics
G.O.A.T. Simone Biles is getting candid about her 2021 Olympics experience. During the gymnastics qualifying rounds on Sunday, July 25, the Russian team outscored the American team in a surprising upset. Though she made the finals in every individual event, the all-around competition, and posted the highest score of the day, Biles still wasn't thrilled with how the day went. And she took to Instagram to share her thoughts.
“Prelims ☑️ now to prepare for finals,” Biles posted. “It wasn’t an easy day or my best but I got through it. I truly do feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times. I know I brush it off and make it seem like pressure doesn’t affect me but damn sometimes it’s hard hahaha! The olympics is no joke! BUT I’m happy my family was able to be with me virtually. they mean the world to me!”

Biles's comments section has been flooded with supportive messages. In particular, Nastia Liukin—the gold medal-winning gymnast who most recently competed at the 2008 Olympics and is covering the Games in Tokyo—posted, “proud of you, always ❤."
Liukin also wrote on her IG Story, “I feel like at times, people forget that even the very best in the world are still human-with nerves, pain, stress, anxiety, pressure. So let's continue to spread our love and support to our athletes who are doing something SO difficult already, and then having to also handle the weight of an entire nation and world on their shoulders during a pandemic without fans AND their number one supporters, their family.”
What's most heartening, though, is Biles has kept a sense of humor throughout the Games. On July 26, she posted some candid shots of herself making faces during and after her routines.
Never change, Simone Biles; we love you forever.
