“That would never happen.” WRONG.
So Elizabeth Olsen Spoiled ‘WandaVision’ in 2015
Who's been messing up everything? It's been Elizabeth Olsen all along!
Warning: This article contains spoilers for all nine episodes of WandaVision, as well as some Marvel movies. Episode nine of WandaVision has a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene. If you finished the episode but forgot to stick around for those, go back and watch now.
Okay, so back to Elizabeth Olsen. She didn't actually mess up anything, but she did kind of spoil WandaVision back in 2015 before the popular Disney+ series was even a twinkle in Marvel Studio president Kevin Feige's eye (probably).
An old Olsen interview has been making the rounds on TikTok and Twitter. In it, Olsen was promoting Avengers: Age of Ultron with her costar Aaron Taylor Johnson, who played Pietro Maximoff at the time. (You know, the part Marvel recast with Evan Peters, who played the X-Men version of Quicksilver. Turns out that was just to confuse us. Peters was simply Agnes's husband, Ralph, the whole time.)
Anyway, Olsen was asked by ScreenRant what she'd like to see the Scarlet Witch do next. “My favorite is House of M, but that would never happen,” Olsen said around the 1:40 mark. “I mean if she could have two fake babies and everyone tell her that they don't really exist, and then her just go nuts—that would be unbelievable, but I don't think they're gonna do that. It might be a little too dark for the Marvel Universe. When she loses her mind, it's my favorite thing in the comics.”
Never say never, indeed. Sure, WandaVision does not follow House of M to the letter. Instead, the event that sparks Wanda's grief-stricken nervous breakdown is the death of Vision in Avengers: Infinity War. But it does turn out that little Billy and Tommy cannot exist outside Westview. In order to save the townspeople and set everything back to normal, Wanda is forced to sacrifice her babies and husband in the final episode of the season.
So yeah, it looks like Olsen pretty much got her wish, while I got to cry over two little pixel boys. Still, in the post-credits scene, it seems Wanda gets some kind of vision of Tommy and Billy screaming for help. Like my favorite straight TV couple said in the finale, “We've said goodbye before; it stands to reason we'll say hello again.”
