Do I want bangs?!
Sophie Turner Just Got Blunt Bangs
Anyone who knows me knows how I feel about bangs, but Sophie Turner has me ready to risk it all.
On May 28, the Game of Thrones star shared her new fringe in an Instagram Story, writing, "ya gal's BANG'd up."
Turner hasn't gone through a major hair transformation since trading in her iconic red Sansa Stark hair for platinum blonde five years ago. Though a natural blonde, the transition was almost too much for her hair. “A few years ago I was trying to go back from red to blond, and it destroyed my hair to the point that I had to use a wig for Game of Thrones,” she told Glamour in 2018. "They wouldn't let me dye it back red or my hair would've fallen out." (Honestly, the wig sounds preferable to the years they wouldn't let her wash her hair for the role.)
As for the cut, Sophie Turner has always been about the low-maintenance approach. “I like to leave it natural and let my hair do its own thing,” the actor told Glamour in another interview. “I had it cut a little shorter recently, which felt edgier. All I do is put in an anti-frizz balm, and I’m good to go.”
However, this is not the first time Turner has gone for the blunt bang and blonde combination. Please see this adorable childhood photo for proof of concept:
Bangs that lay straight across the face, of course, are not so easy to manage day-to-day. If you're looking to rock a similar look with minimum effort, you should probably go for curtain bangs, which frame the face and are less of a pain to grow out. Wafty bangs, which give off serious Farrah Fawcett vibes, are another good option.
"Curtain bangs are the gateway to bangs, because they're super versatile," Emily Heser, stylist at Cutler Salon in New York City, once told Glamour. "They're long enough to grow out or pin back if you want, but they can also be cut into a shorter look."
Honestly, I might have to start there, but if you're ready to take a more dramatic plunge, you're clearly in good company.
