Is this another Easter egg?
Taylor Swift Wore a $78 Free People Top to Accept Her AMA for Artist of the Year
Taylor Swift is recording her old music, and she’s doing it in style (sorry, I had to).
On November 22, Swift took home three American Music Awards, including artist of the year. During her virtual acceptance speech, she revealed she’s in the studio where it all began, working diligently on rerecording all her old music—which, frankly, is a whole other story you can read about here.
“The reason I’m not there tonight is I’m actually rerecording all of my old music in the studio where we originally recorded it, so it’s been amazing and I can’t wait for you to hear it,” she shared in her acceptance speech.
But I’m not here to talk about her ongoing feud with Scooter Braun or all the theories and Easter eggs explaining why she’s probably in the middle of rerecording her album Red right now. (Though, like, that Zodiac tapestry is a major clue….) What I actually want to talk about, instead, is Swift’s comfy, stay-at-home aesthetic she had going during her speech.
She may be revisiting old music and her famed red lipstick, but the $78 Emmy mock-neck sweater from Free People is pure Folklore. It may not technically count as a cardigan, but the oversized pullover is slouchy enough to wear with your favorite pair of jeans, a mug of camomile tea, and a good book while “Betty” plays in the background.
Taylor Swift opted for the classic black, but the Free People sweater comes in eight other colors including…ahem…red. Okay, now I might be reaching.
Emmy Mock Neck Sweater
$78Free PeopleStill, the queen of Easter eggs may still be trying to tell us something with her latest sartorial choices because this isn’t the only Folklore-approved comfy sweater she wore on Sunday. The artist also trolled fans on November 22 in a patterned knit on Instagram, writing, “not a lot going on at the moment.”
If you’re a true Swiftie, you know that’s a quote from a T-shirt worn in the music video for the hit song “22.” Which album is that from? You guessed it: Red.
While Taylor Swift may be taking a lyrical walk down memory lane, the artist could be hinting that her rerecordings will be infused with the sound of her latest musical era. Or, I could have no idea what I’m talking about. Either way, I want these sweaters.
