From colour-pop puffers to oversize tailored styles, these are the three best high-street coat trends to buy in 2021.
The 3 Coat Trends I'm Recommending to All My Friends
If it's not abundantly clear from our daily article round-up, we are big champions of the Great British high street here at Who What Wear. However, I have to admit that scrolling through the new-in section of the average e-commerce site can feel like being caught in a hailstorm of roll-necks, boots, and puffer coats. (Items change according to the season.) With lockdown 3.0 ensuring that laps around the local park aren't disappearing any time soon, we've definitely spent far too many evenings lost down an online shopping hole in order to find the best affordable coats to carry us through the next three months.
Allow me to be of assistance. Having a bird's-eye view over the changing trends of the last 12 months has offered me a handy insight into what pieces are actually worth your time and money, and when it comes to coats, I would say there are three styles which pass the test. Yes, just three. The tailored coat, the puffer, and the shearling are three coat styles that I own and can personally attest to for warmth, style, and versatility. Not only this, but they also happen to be styles that the high street is acing this season.
My other reason for choosing these three coat categories is that they come in a variety of iterations, which will hopefully allow for a wider range of interpretations. Essentially, you can pick and choose according to your taste and wardrobe needs. From oversize, tailored silhouetted and colour-pop puffers to classic cream shearling and cocooning ankle-grazing fits, scroll down for the high-street coats you need to see this January.
The Tailored Coats
Style Notes: A tailored coat is the fashion gift that keeps on giving season after season. While there are certainly flimsy iterations on the high street, there are also plenty of premium-feel fabrics. Look out for oversize silhouettes for a more expensive-looking silhouette and weighty fabrics such as wool.

Style Notes: It's good news for chilly people everywhere: The puffer coat is having a moment, and it's, by far, the warmest thing you can wear when the mercury drops. Thankfully, for the puffer ambivalent (myself included), there is a variety of styles to choose from, including elegant quilted fabrics, colour-pop crops, and dramatic over-the-knee fits.

Style Notes: Like tailored coats, shearling is a fabric that never really drops off the fashion radar. It just manifests in new cuts and colours. This season, I'm eyeing up layering-ready utility styles, cocooning bikers, and the subtle creams and beiges of classic shearling button-downs.
