These Are the 19 Yoga Pants Vogue Editors Love Most
There are a few factors to keep in mind when searching for the best yoga pants or workout leggings. According to a number of Vogue editors, the most important consideration is that the leggings should be versatile: comfortable enough for at-home workouts but sleek enough for a run through the park. But whatever your go-to activity—yoga in the nooks and crannies of our apartments, spin class in your living room—finding the perfect combination of “athletic” and “leisure” is key.
We’ve asked our colleagues to share their favorite styles and have rounded up their most beloved yoga pants—several options promise supreme softness and a favorable fit. Some are said to be so flattering, in fact, that they’ll even do a bit of sculpting for you—no squats required. There are plenty of essential all-black pairs to choose from, like Spanx’s ultra-tight pair and a sleek-and-smooth style from ALO. Looking for something with a bit more flair? Consider a style from Tory Burch’s sportswear line or Outdoor Voices’s mood-boosting yoga pants, which come in a range of cheery colors.
These are the must-have styles even Vogue editors don’t want to take off. Shop 19 of the best yoga pants, below.

As much as I love doing yoga, I have never been a fan of leggings, which is perhaps why I’ve never paid much attention to my workout wardrobe. It honestly took a pandemic to get me out of the basic (now threadbare and faded) black yoga pants I’ve been wearing for years. Prism2’s leggings are ultimately the upgrade I’ve been looking for for ages. They’re flattering in a way that’s different from any pair I’ve worn before, something I think comes down to the jersey to stretch ratio: they hold you in without being uncomfortable. Cut high on the waist, the silhouette pairs nicely with a sports bra too; so no need for my saggy old workout t-shirt.

I’ve been wearing the same Outdoor Voices leggings for years now, and they have stood me in good stead for all active-wear occasions: yoga, hiking, running, doing bicep curls in my bedroom…the material is the right thickness, the fit is flattering, and I love how colorful they are.

I can’t get enough of Beyond Yoga’s leggings. They are the softest yoga pants I have ever worn, and they give the perfect amount of slimming compression. The high waistband is the perfect combination with their bra tank tops, which I also recommend.

I love this high-rise pair of leggings from Tory Sport because there’s also a corresponding sports bra. When I roll out my yoga mat at home, somehow being in a head-to-toe workout look gets me ready to focus on the workout at hand instead of thinking about all the emails I could be attending to.

I’m no yogi, but since I’ve been working from home, it’s safe to say I’ve finally been able to put my favorite yoga pants to their intended use. Not only are they smooth to the touch and comfortable, but they make the perfect #wfhoutfit because all you need to do is add a pretty blouse on top and you’ll be ready for your next Zoom call.

I find it hard to get excited about any athleticwear, but I’m pretty obsessed with Girlfriend Collective. Their leggings are perfect—soft, high-rise, compressive but not suffocating—and they’re made with recycled polyester and safe, non-toxic dyes. (Word to the wise: Ultra-black dyes are incredibly toxic, which is why GC’s leggings are a softer black.)

A high-rise crop is my favorite legging cut (and denim cut by happenstance). These are great for my early morning runs and yoga. And they don’t look schlubby when I wear them directly after a workout to the playground with my toddler before the workday starts.

At 5’3” I like a cropped legging as they are ankle length on my legs and I avoid needing to have them hemmed! These Alo leggings are a great multi purpose workout pant—just as good for yoga as they are for a high intensity boxing class.

I think I’ve tried just about every legging brand, especially during my days at SELF magazine. Years, later these Beyond Yoga leggings are still my favorite. They’re buttery soft and comfortable, and they just seem to get better with time. I also appreciate the super high-waist band, especially when bending over and stretching during a yoga session.

I’m not really one for working out but Port De Bras’s ballet-inspired gear inspires me to give it a go. Their leggings are all purpose—for yoga, running, and yes ballet—and don’t make me feel as though I’ll let them down with my gym-less approach to exercise.

In order to stay active, my friends and I have been sharing our favorite yoga classes, whether they’re on YouTube or being livestreamed from the New York City studios that we usually go to. It’s fun to try to do them together, to give the illusion that we’re in class together. And now that I’m working from home, I’ve been relying on my yoga wardrobe even more so. On Zoom calls, even if I’m wearing an office-appropriate shirt onscreen, I’m likely wearing these Lululemon leggings on the bottom.

Truth be told, I have not yet tried the brand new activewear from PH5, but I did recently talk to designer Wei Lin about the concept. She is an ironman athlete and marathoner, and she swears by the fit, comfort, and durability of sustainably-made knit leggings. These may just be the perfect yoga pants for me, and for anyone else who wants something that’s both practical and stylish for practicing their downward dogs.
