Certain trends are just begging to be photographed and somehow look even better once you do. Here are the five photogenic trends that will take over 2021.
These Photogenic Trends Are Officially Taking Over, and I've Got the Proof
There are certain pieces in your wardrobe that you can't help but photograph when wearing, whether it's a bold print, touchable texture, or fun silhouette. Sometimes, though, these items look even better in a photo than they do in real life (and, of course, sometimes the opposite happens, as you can't always win). But today, I want to focus on the former: the photogenic trends people can't stop Instagramming.
I've spent more time scrolling through social media in 2020 than I'd care to admit (being stuck at home will do that to you), and I've noticed a few trends that are suddenly everywhere. Not only do they look stunning in photos, but they're all poised to get even bigger next year. From the bold color already being dubbed 2021's It hue to the jewelry trend basically made for Zoom calls, below are the five photogenic trends officially taking over my Instagram feed.
1. Bubblegum Pink
On Michelle Li: Remain Birger Christensen coat
Bubblegum pink is predicted to be the biggest color trend of 2021, and based on my recent assessment, that prediction is spot on. The bold, happy hue is already popping up all over my Instagram feed on some of the most influential fashion people and it makes me do a double-take every time. This fun pop of color is a nice change from the heavy neutrals that have been trending for the past few winters.
On Aimee Song: Song of Style Genevieve Top ($148) and Daphne Mini Skirt ($138)
Violeta by Mango Suit Blazer2. Ripped Jeans
On Ellie: Agolde jeans, H&M boots, Chanel bag
Nineties trends cycle in and out of fashion constantly, and the latest one to experience a resurgence is ripped jeans. The jagged texture is eye-catching in photos and adds interest to even the simplest of outfits.
On Camille Charriere: Maison Margiela jacket
Ksubi Playback Vibez Trashed Distressed High-Rise Jeans ($240) Citizens of Humanity Emery Long Mid Rise Relaxed Straight Jeans ($228) Good American Good Girlfriend Side Step ($179) Goodthreads Mid-Rise Girlfriend Jean ($45)3. Second-Skin Tops
On Claire Most: Capricorns Studios top
Second-skin tops have been trending hard in 2020 and show no signs of slowing down. They're a cool alternative to your favorite T-shirt or bodysuit, and a fun print makes an outfit pop.
On Mecca James-Williams: Asai top; BY FAR shoes
Urban Outfitters Miles Mesh Top ($39) Ganni Puppytooth Stretch-Mesh Turtleneck Top ($135) Kai Collective Gaia Top ($67)4. Chunky Chains
On Cass Dimicco: Storets sweatsuit, Aurem Collective necklace
Blame it on all the Zoom calls, but chunky chain necklaces have been everywhere as of late. Whether layered with other delicate necklaces or worn on their own, a bold chain dresses up any outfit and feels modern yet timeless all at once.
On Chinda Phraph: Orseund Iris top, Fandh Jewelry necklace
Laura Lombardi Cable Gold-Plated Necklace ($140) Jules Smith In Chains Necklace ($70) Mango Padlock Chain Necklace ($30) Ciunofor Square Toggle Clasp Chain Necklace ($27)5. Luxe Knit Sets
On Jordan Santos: Nanushka set
I'm a sucker for texture, so the matching knit set trend is right up my alley. It's the perfect antidote to at-home style, as a knit set is both comfortable and chic, and the ribbed details are just begging to be photographed.
On Olivia Perez: Song of Style set
The Reformation Monte Two Piece Set ($198) Spiritual Gangster Melody Sweater ($128) Spiritual Gangster Serenity Jogger ($118)Up next, I swear this timeless coat trend somehow always looks expensive.
