Watch how Regina King’s Louis Vuitton Golden Globes look came together on Good Morning Vogue.

Digital fashion week is ongoing in Europe, but in California, fashion is coming alive amidst awards season. The Golden Globes, held last weekend, was a landmark ceremony for female directors: Regina King, Emerald Fennell, and Chloe Zhao were nominated in the Best Director category. “It says that we still have a long way to go, but it gives hope to what the landscape of women directors will look like,” King says. For the honor, the director and actress chose a black Louis Vuitton dress embellished with 40,000 sequins and crystals by creative director Nicolas Ghesquière

“What is very specific about Regina’s dress is the duality of the design: It’s really a game between revealing the body and covering the body,” Ghesquière tells Good Morning Vogue. “This dress represents a very glamorous armor.” For King and her stylists Wayman and Micah, the dress accentuates King’s style. “This fabric is like an embrace,” Micah says. Even King’s dog Cornbread gives it the seal of approval.
