TikTok is obsessed, and so am I.
This Eyeliner Makes My Eyes Twinkle Like a Disney Princess
During the past year, TikTok has become my own virtual shopping mall, where each user convinces me I absolutely must buy something in 60 seconds or less. The latest? Charlotte Tilbury's Hollywood Exagger-eyes liner duo.
Unlike some of the other things I've impulsively purchased and then abandoned—turns out I look stupid in trucker hats and have nowhere to wear glitter lipstick—Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Exagger-eyes liner has become a staple in my daily makeup routine. The premise is simple: One end features a classic matte black pencil for defining, the other, a shimmering champagne shade to brighten and widen your eyes. I probably have around 300 black liners and 100 nudes in my collection, but a video by the user Gisele Ayora convinced me to add yet another.
In the aforementioned video, she calls the eyeliner a “highlighter for her eyes," swiping the champagne shade onto her waterline. The different between the highlighted eye and non-highlighted eye is pretty major, and the finished result is subtle, yet her eyes twinkle like an animated deer.
I've always admired big-eyed icons—Twiggy, Zooey Deschanel, Sailor Moon—but as I was born with smaller eyes, I've been trying to make them pop since I started wearing makeup. The whole white or nude eyeliner in the waterline thing looks great in pictures, but IRL always looks chalky and fake on me, which is why the shimmer shade in the Charlotte Tilbury appealed to me (that, and the promise of Disney Princess eyes).
Though my eyes weren't quite as wide-awake looking as the girl in the video (going to chalk that up to genetics and lash extensions), one swipe of the liner made my eyes look brighter and insanely twinkly—not like I stayed up until 1 AM watching TV or battling a summer cold. It's also super subtle, and adds just enough of a pop to make it look like you've done something, but doesn't compete with the rest of your makeup or look too “done." Most importantly, the formula is so creamy and smooth, and doesn't clump up or gather in my lower lashes like other liners.
I've also been using the black side on the daily, it's perfect for the subtle wing I've been doing since the world started opening up again. It's equally as creamy as its metallic counterpart, and is easy to manipulate and slightly smudge before it sets for all-day wear. I've also been using thr shimmer side to add just a touch of dewdrop-like shimmer to my lids Basically, it's my entire eye look in one place.
My eyes may not be as big and sparkling as Cinderella's, but they're pretty damn close. After the year we've had, I'll take what I can get.
