This TikTok Style Star Can Pull Off Any Decade
Whether you’re a ’70s disco lover or more of a grungy ’90s fan, each era has a distinctive fashion look. While it’s satisfying to look through inspo photos of people who wholly embody a time and place, it’s even more rewarding to watch someone flit through them effortlessly. Behold: a new TikTok star who can pull all of them off.
Nicole Stephens is a 19-year-old TikTok star in Alabama with over 1.6 million followers. Since joining the app in November of 2019, Stephens has made experimenting with different fashion looks her signature. She can pull off virtually any decade: ’90s denim bucket hats, ’70s flares, and even 1950s poodle skirts. Sometimes she’ll cram them all into one video and span the years. “I can’t seem to stick to one style because I want to try it all,” says Stephens, adding there her favorite eras are the 1990s and the 2000s.
Stephens enjoys thrifting and shopping vintage to give her videos an authentic feel. From there, she’ll hop onto many different TikTok challenges to show off her fits, from recreating celebrity outfits, to the brand new picture day challenge, where you pretend you’re getting your yearbook photo taken in your best outfit. (She says she stalks the app’s For You Page to keep up to date on the trends.)
Below, Stephens talks about what’s in her closet, which era is the hardest to recreate, and which TikTok video took her the longest.
1. One of the things I love most about your videos is that you can pull off any decade. What's your favorite decade for fashion?
