They have a good reason.
Why Katherine Schwarzenegger and Chris Pratt Don’t Post Their Baby’s Face on Social Media
Katherine Schwarzenegger and Chris Pratt welcomed their daughter, Lyla, last August and haven’t shown her face on either of their Instagram accounts. The new mom recently appeared on the Today show and explained the reasoning behind their decision.
“Obviously, I didn’t grow up with social media being a thing at all, so it’s a little bit different in that way just because I feel like we share so much in today’s world,” she told Hoda Kotb. “But I think one of the greatest gifts that my parents ever gave me and my siblings is the gift of privacy and having a really normal upbringing, or as normal of an upbringing as possible.”
There are a few ways celebrities navigate having babies in the digital age. Some are comfortable sharing their kids on Instagram (Hilary Duff and Chrissy Teigen), others sometimes use emojis to cover their kids’ faces (Kristen Bell and Danielle Fishel), and then there are parents like Schwarzenegger and Pratt, who have their own way of doings things. And all these decisions are valid.
Despite being the daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, Katherine Schwarzenegger was able to enjoy growing up out of the public eye. “We had a really normal and magical childhood, and we were allowed to kind of be our own people and have our own identity and kind of choose to step into whatever form of being public we wanted to when we felt comfortable,” she continued. “That was such an incredible gift to have given us kids.”
Not showing Lyla on social media platforms like Instagram is “really important” to Pratt, as well, Schwarzenegger says. And she says her siblings, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Christina Schwarzenegger, and Christopher Schwarzenegger, all benefited from having a somewhat “normal” childhood. “I want to be able to give that to our baby too,” she said.
