Yes, Gigi Hadid Wore White After Labor Day

She proved the fashion rule needs to be retired.

Now don’t freak out, but Gigi Hadid just wore white after Labor Day. The shock! The horror! Except, well, she looks really good. Today in New York City, the model emerged in a pristine look that proved the fashion “rule” needs to be retired for good. After all, fashion “don’ts” are archaic in a world where individuality and personal style is championed.

Hadid’s all-white outfit is particularly good because she played with proportions in an interesting way. She paired a white, tight-fitted button-up vest—vests are huge for fall, by the way—with looser, cream, pleated trousers, which made for the perfect pairing. Her chunky Converse sneakers, angular shades, and khaki shoulder bag also lent a cool finish to the minimal ensemble.

Hadid’s look is so refreshing it makes you wonder why wearing white post-Labor Day was ever deemed a fashion don’t. Turns out, it’s a classist rule that began in the 1800s: Upper-class people only wore white in the summer, and anyone who would wear it in the fall was deemed “lower-class.” You simply don’t need that energy in 2021. The only rule you should adhere to is looking and feeling good—whatever that means to you! Wearing all-white, however, is a good place to start. It clearly looks put-together, no matter the season.
