It’s your time to own a piece of fashion history—and it goes towards a good cause.
You Can Now Buy Lady Gaga’s Inauguration Brooch
When Lady Gaga sang the national anthem at President Joe Biden’s inauguration in January, all eyes were on her showstopping brooch. The singer’s custom look, designed by Schiaparelli creative director Daniel Roseberry, centered around a large gold brooch of a dove carrying an olive branch, a symbol of peace and hope. “Her inauguration performance, and the symbolic Dove brooch, is a milestone in the history of this maison and in my life,” says Roseberry. And now, you can own it for yourself.
Today, Schiaparelli officially launches the Schiaparelli Dove brooch at Schiaparelli, Bergdorf Goodman, and Dove Street Market stores. The accessory comes in four different sizes and treatments; prices range from $790 for a six-centimeter brass dove brooch to $2,150 for the larger 12-centimeter white brass dove brooch. (Gaga’s style was an even bigger size than these, but all carry the olive branch, like hers did.)
Better yet, the new release also has a charitable component: All funds raised from the brooch sales will be donated to Lady Gaga’s Born This Way foundation—the nonprofit organization that she founded with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, which is committed to supporting the mental health of youths. “My daughter and I, along with the young people we work with every day, believe kindness is the way forward from the overlapping, ongoing crises of the last year and a half,” Germanotta said in a release. “We couldn’t be more grateful to have the proceeds from the Schiaparelli Dove, a beautiful symbol of hope and new beginnings, benefit our work and mission to build a kinder, braver world.”
The house of Schiaparelli has a long history of using dove motifs in its collections. When founding designer Elsa Schiaparelli left Paris for the U.S. to escape World War II, she arrived in New York wearing her favorite brooch, which was shaped like a dove. From there, she often used surrealist imagery in her works, and doves frequently appeared in her designs, both as prints on gowns or as accessories. Now you can buy a little piece of fashion history as well—and channel a little bit of Gaga in the process. Plus, for a good cause? Win-win.
