The third Sonic installment is expected to make $55 million to $60 million in North America, but has received generally good reviews on Metacritic. The first two films earned $725. 2 million globally and inspired a spin-off series, Knuckles, which came out earlier this year.
Schwartz has been praised for taking over the role of Sonic from fans but has stated he's just sticking to the movies and won't take over the voice for any upcoming games. Schwartz's co-star Keanu Reeves, who brings Shadow to life, will reprise the character in the recently released Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack DLC for Sonic x Shadow Generations.
The former Parks and Rec star and comedian also recently mentioned that he understands that Shadow is a cool character for kids and said when he was a kid, he loved Frog from Chrono Trigger. He recalled Frog's giant broadsword as "one of the coolest things of all time." Schwartz went on to call Chrono Trigger his favorite video game.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 once again stars Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Idris Elba as his friends Tails and Knuckles, with Jim Carey pulling double duty as their nemesis Dr. Ivo Robotnik and his father, Gerald. Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter also reprise their roles as the human guardians of Sonic and his friends.
