Berserk: The Complete 1997 TV Series is on sale for only $39 (was $60) at Amazon. This is the lowest price of the year for the Blu-ray edition of one of the greatest anime shows of its era. Widely regarded as the best anime adapted from Kentaro Miura's legendary manga, the 1997 series released on Blu-ray last spring and has remained a popular pick ever since.

Berserk tells the story of Guts and his eternal battle against demonic forces. Dark fantasy mixed with brutal violence, the anime series took some deviations from the source material but it was praised for how it handled the darker themes of Miura's work. This is a limited-edition steelbook version of Berserk and it contains all 25 episodes from the series in high-definition. Both the Japanese and English language dubs are available on the disc, and all extras from previous releases have been included.

A Crunchyroll-exclusive Steelbook Edition released last fall, but it sells for $80, roughly twice the price of the standard edition at the moment.

Many years after the original series concluded, a new Berserk anime rewound the clock back to the beginning. This trilogy of 2012-2013 films weren't quite as good as the 1997 series, but it is a more faithful adaptation. The beautiful 2D artwork doesn't always blend well with the CGI animation, but it's pretty darn great overall. The Golden Age Arc: Memorial Edition recuts the remastered films into 13 episodes. Released on Blu-ray last summer, the Memorial Edition features both English and Japanese dubs. You can add the reconfigured Golden Age Arc to your collection for $48 (was $70).

The 2016 Berserk anime is also on sale for only $41 (was $70) on Blu-ray. Some longtime Berserk fans dislike how often it doesn't follow the manga, while others enjoy it for that reason. It has some visual miscues and oddities with the animation itself, but the series still has bright spots and overall is worth watching.

If you want to check out the original manga, the Deluxe Editions are the way to go. All 14 of these gorgeous hardcover compilations are available at Amazon, and many of them are discounted by $15-$20. Each book contains three volumes of Berserk. Together, the 14 hardcovers collect all of the trade paperbacks written by Miura before his death in 2021. Berserk Volume 42, the first paperback without Miura's work, was published in March and honors the series creator.
