Now Playing: Donkey Kong Bananza Looks Like The Mario Odyssey Successor No One Expected | Hands-On Impressions

While story is not usually a focus in the Donkey Kong series, Donkey Kong Bananza see the titular ape partnering with a teenaged Pauline, a character who had previously leaked before her official reveal in last month's Donkey Kong Bananza Direct. The revelation has already prompted plenty of speculation over the Donkey Kong timeline and whether this game could be a prequel, or another universe altogether.

The Donkey Kong Bananza Direct had revealed that other characters from the Donkey Kong Country series would also feature in the game, such as Kranky Kong and Rambi, while the infamous DK Rap can also be heard.

Donkey Kong Bananza is the gorilla's first 3D platformer since 1999's Donkey Kong 64 and the first to be internally developed by Nintendo since 2005's Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. In our preview, it was confirmed that it is being developed by the same team behind Super Mario Odyssey.

A listing has also revealed that a Donkey Kong film is in the works from the same Mario movie team, as Nintendo and Universal jointly filed a copyright for an "untitled Donkey Kong motion picture."
