Cameras are finally rolling on the Watch Dogs movie

10+ Years After Being Announced, The Watch Dogs Movie Is Actually Happening, For Real

Mathieu Turi (The Deep Dark, Hostile, and assistant director on Inglourious Basterds) is directing Watch Dogs from a script by Christie LeBlanc (Oxygen). Victoria Bata (Lessons in Chemistry) also contributed to the script.

The Watch Dogs movie was originally set up at Sony Pictures but has now changed hands to New Regency. Turi is also developing a TV series based on the Plague Tale games.

The Watch Dogs game series debuted in 2014 (more than a year after the movie was announced), with sequels Watch Dogs 2 (2016) and Watch Dogs Legion (2020) following. The series used places like Chicago, San Francisco, and London as settings across the three installments, and the open-world games feature futuristic hacking and gadgetry.

Ubisoft has not announced any new Watch Dogs games. While this is a major development for the Watch Dogs movie, the long-in-development Splinter Cell and The Division movies remain MIA. For more, check out GameSpot's gallery below that runs through 35 video game movies in development.
