Catch the first look at the opening credits for Batman: Caped Crusader

Batman: Caped Crusader Puts The Dark Night In 1940s Noir

Fittingly, the first name that pops up in the credits is Bruce Timm, one of the masterminds behind Batman: The Animated Series. Timm is executive producing the new show, and is also the guiding voice of the series. Comic-book scribe and former Batman writer Ed Brubaker also gets his due in the credits, but not before two of the other big name executive producers: J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves.

In contrast to Batman: The Animated Series' opening with the title character foiling an afterhours bank robbery, the Caped Crusader credits sequence is more loosely connected at best. It appears to be establishing the noir mood for the show, which is set in 1940, unlike previous Batman adaptations. The art style for the series is also different from the earlier Batman cartoon, but close enough that it feels like a natural evolution.

Hamish Linklater leads the voice cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman, with Christina Ricci as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Eric Morgan Stuart as James Gordon, Krystal Joy Brown as Barbara Gordon, Diedrich Bader as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, and Jamie Chung as Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn. This is one of the first Batman animated projects produced since the death of Kevin Conroy, who had voiced the character for decades. Conroy died in 2022, but his final performance as Batman was recently released in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3.

Batman: Caped Crusader will premiere on August 1 on Prime Video.
