Anyone looking to buy a physical copy of Borderlands 4 for Switch 2 will also have to clear some space on the console, as Pitchford suggested that it might be sold as a Game-Key Card. "It's a big game. There will be a download, even for physical copies," Pitchford wrote.
Game-Key Cards essentially turn the Switch 2 cartridge into an authentication key to enable the download of the game directly to the console. It's worth noting that Game-Key Cards aren't tied to your Nintendo account, as they can be used be shared with friends or sold to another person.
Borderlands 4 will also be available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and the game will launch earlier for those platforms on September 12. As its release date draws closer, Gearbox has begun sharing more details on the game's playable characters--like the new Siren named Vex--the hundreds of collectibles that you probably won't find, and an option to finally make Claptrap shut up.
