Plants vs. Zombies 3 was first announced in 2019 and soft-launched in various regions over the past few years such as Australia and the Philippines. The game was taken offline months later as EA sought to give it a "major overhaul." It's likely that the new art direction is part of the initiative.
Plants vs. Zombies first released in 2009 and a sequel, Plants vs. Zombies 2, arrived in 2013. The spin-off, Garden Warfare, became enormously popular, making it the face of the franchise for several years.
