"It’s hard to say if that's even a thing," Harada said when asked about the status of Tekken X Street Fighter by Destructoid. "I mean, it depends on what people are wanting as well. That said, I would like to show people what we already have. That would be cool if we could do that. We were 30% into development, so fingers crossed."
In 2021, Harada suggested that development might resume one day, as the development team was waiting for the right opportunity to revive the project.
While Tekken X Street Fighter never saw the light of day, Tekken 7 did provide a look at what the project could have been. The 2015 game featured Street Fighter's Akuma as a playable character and a major part of the Tekken saga's storyline.
Like other Tekken characters, Akuma had his own unique fighting style and he could unleash several of his signature attacks in combat. Akuma didn't have a Rage Drive meter in Tekken 7, but he did have a Super Combo meter that he could burn segments from to power up his attacks into "EX" moves.
Beyond that, Street Fighter and Tekken have forged ahead with new games on PC and console. Street Fighter 6 was released in 2023 and the next character being added to its roster is C. Viper.
Tekken 8 launched in 2024, and like Street Fighter, post-launch plans for the game have revolved around new fighters being added semi-regularly. The next season of Tekken 8 will see two more characters enter the ring, as fan-favorite wrestler Armor King will be available starting October 13 and will be joined by Madagascan Miary Zo in winter.
