The Lightcycles have been a part of Tron since the original movie in 1982. That tradition will likely continue in Tron: Ares. The premise of the film is that Ares (Leto) has found a way to travel from the digital Grid to the real world. The only direct connection between this film and the first two movies in the franchise is Jeff Bridges, who will appear as either Kevin Flynn or a digital recreation of Flynn since he appeared to perish in Tron: Legacy.

Greta Lee will co-star as Eve Kim, a scientist whose work helps Ares crossover to reality. Evan Peters also stars Julian Dillinger, a character who is likely related to David Warner's Ed Dillinger, one of the villains from the first Tron. The rest of the cast includes Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Sarah Desjardins.

Joachim Rønning is directing Ares from a screenplay by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne, while Nine Inch Nails is set to provide the score. Tron: Ares will hit theaters on October 10, 2025.
