Beyond that, not much else is known about the Death Stranding movie at this early point in its development. It has been rumored that the adaptation will explore the Death Stranding disaster that brings humanity to the brink of extinction, and Kojima has explained how he wants the film to stand out from other video game movies. Meanwhile, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach has a confirmed release date of June 26 for PS5.

The sequel will feature several familiar faces from the first game, including Norman Reedus as Sam Porter Bridges, Lea Seydoux as Fragile, and Troy Baker as Higgs. New characters will be voiced and based on the likenesses of several famous actors and directors, including Mad Max's George Miller, Elle Fanning, Fatih Akin, Shioli Kutsuna, Alastair Duncan, Alissa Jung, Lucas Larinelli, and Deborah Wilson.
