Now Playing: Nintendo Switch 2 - Nintendo Switch Online Overview Trailer

For a GameShare-compatible game to work, a free update must be downloaded first, as the video shows in Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics--it is a mode that has to be selected on the title screen.

With GameShare, a Switch 2 owner can share their game either in person or online with other Switch users, who do not have to own the game or download anything. Receiving users of GameShare need only select the GameChat icon on the home screen.

As the video shows, GameShare is not just simply streaming a copy of the game, but each player sees the game from their own perspective as if they were running their own copy of the game. This means for card games or mahjong, a player will only see their own hand.

The post illustrates that GameShare works in person via local wireless, and while it needs to be started by a Switch 2 user, the function is compatible between Switch 2 and original Switch systems.

GameShare also works online via GameChat, but this means that receiving systems must also be a Switch 2.

The Nintendo Today post confirms the following games are compatible with GameShare:

  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
  • Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
  • Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics
  • Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain

Further details are also provided on how each game is supported via GameShare. For example, Super Mario Odyssey lets two players play as Mario and Cappy. Interestingly, the roles can be swapped so it's not just the person sharing the game who gets to play as Mario.

While Nintendo has only confirmed GameShare for first-party games, Switch 2 launch game Survival Kids is also confirmed to support GameShare for up to three players.

In another video to celebrate the Switch 2 launch, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang shared insights into the creation of Switch 2's custom processor, claiming it offers the most advanced graphics ever seen in a portable device.
