Suicide Squad Director Reveals Photo Of His "Original Intent" For Joker
No face tattoos are in sight
Ayer has clearly been reflecting on the DC film as of late. Earlier this month, the Suicide Squad filmmaker mentioned that new DC Studios co-head James Gunn--who also helmed 2021's The Suicide Squad--supports a release of a so-called Ayer Cut of the film. If you're unfamiliar, Ayer hasn't held back from distancing himself from the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad in the past.
Looking ahead, Gunn will oversee a new vision for DC Studios that officially kicks off with Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters. He will spearhead the effort himself by writing and directing Superman: Legacy, which will premiere in theaters July 11, 2025.
Ayer's Suicide Squad will live on in a way within the new DC film universe. Amanda Waller, portrayed by Viola Davis, will get her own Max series in the future. Davis originally appeared in the 2016 flick and has reprised her Waller role in The Suicide Squad as well as Peacemaker.
