Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship & Two Towers Steelbook Preorders Are Live At Amazon

No longer exclusive to Walmart, the upcoming Limited Edition Steelbook releases of The Two Towers and Fellowship of the Rings arrive on May 27
Limited Edition Steelbooks for Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers are now available to preorder at Amazon ahead of their May 27 release. This is notable because Fellowship was originally printed as a Walmart exclusive in January. With the upcoming reprint, which is set to release alongside The Two Towers, Walmart's exclusivity deal has ended.
That said, Walmart is offering discounts on preorders for both that drops the price of Fellowship of the Ring to $28.80 (was $35) and The Two Towers to $28 (was $35). Amazon currently has both beloved Peter Jackson films listed for full price. It is worth noting that Amazon's prices are often a bit higher when preorders open before discounts are applied to match Walmart. Both retailers offer preorder price guarantees, and you won't be charged until your preorders ship.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Steelbook Collection is also back in stock at Walmart and discounted to only $121.65 (was $175). You can pair the box set edition with a matching collection of Jackson's Hobbit Trilogy for $170.

It's worth noting that a box set containing all six of Jackson's Tolkien adaptations launched in March and is on sale right now at Walmart and Amazon. The Middle-earth 6-Film Collection is on sale for 55% off, which drops the price to only $94.68 (was $210). This box set is the only release that also contains all three formats of the theatrical and extended cuts for the pair of trilogies: 4K Blu-ray, the 1080p Blu-ray remastered editions, and digital copies. Audio commentaries are exclusive to the 1080p Blu-ray discs.
This is the same version and steelbook design fro The Fellowship of the Ring featured in the aforementioned The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Steelbook Collection.
The Fellowship of the Ring Steelbook originally released on January 7 and has sold out multiple times since. The upcoming reprint, as mentioned, will no longer be exclusive to Walmart.
Unlike The Lord of the Rings Steelbook Trilogy, the standalone 4K release of Fellowship also includes the digital version of the first film in the trilogy. You'll get theatrical and extended versions of Fellowship of the Ring in both formats.
The Lord of the Rings is almost always packaged as a trilogy on 4K Blu-ray. You won't find 4K or even standard Blu-ray editions of the individual movies at major retailers, so the fact that these budget-friendly steelbooks exist remains a bit of a surprise.
Preorder at Amazon Preorder at Walmart Preorder at GruvOnce again, The Two Towers Limited Edition Steelbook is the same as the one that comes with the The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Steelbook Box Set. But just like with The Fellowship of the Ring, you'll get 4K Blu-ray and digital versions of The Two Towers with the standalone release.
The upcoming standalone release of The Two Towers includes the theatrical and extended cuts of the second movie in Peter Jackson's beloved trilogy.
It seems like only a matter of time before The Return of the King gets a standalone release in Limited Edition Steelbook format.
Preorder at Amazon Preorder at Walmart Preorder at GruvThe Lord of the Rings Trilogy Steelbook Box Set received a reprint in March, and surprisingly it's in stock at Walmart at the moment for a massive discount. The box set is sold out at Amazon, but it is available from resellers for around retail price. That said, you'll want to order from Walmart while you can since you're saving about $50. This is the biggest discount we've seen for this particular LOTR collector's set.
Compared to the standalone releases, the box set generally feels a pricey these days, especially since you miss out on digital versions of the film, but this deal makes it more enticing. Besides the discount, the main draw here is the steelbook display case, which is admittedly pretty awesome.
That said, if The Return of the King gets a standalone Limited Edition Steelbook release, you'll be able to snag steelbooks for all three films for around $100.
See at Walmart See at AmazonPeter Jackson's The Hobbit Trilogy also has a Limited Edition Steelbook box set. Unsurprisingly, The Hobbit Trilogy has never been as popular as LOTR, so this one typically isn't as difficult to find in stock for around retail price. But if you want to get steelbook editions of all six of Peter Jackson's Middle-earth films, you can grab this box set for $160 from Amazon.
It's unclear if The Hobbit films will ever receive standalone steelbook releases. For now, the only way to get a 4K edition of any of the three Hobbit films with a steelbook case is to pick up the box set.
Like The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Steelbook, this set only comes with 4K Blu-ray editions of each film, but you will get the theatrical and extended cuts of each.
