Now Playing: GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI) - Official Release Date Reveal | Trailer 2

Elliott also mentioned that Rockstar will need to find a way to convince GTA 5 players to move from that game to GTA 6, and keeping the standard edition's price point relatively low could be part of the plan. "A higher floor for the switching cost would limit the GTA 5-to-GTA 6 player acquisition," Elliott said. "Players not budging from GTA 5 is probably one of GTA VI's biggest threats--one GTA hasn't really faced before."

Beyond these reasons, Elliott said Rockstar can always release a premium version of GTA 6 for $100 or more that includes bonuses like early access or GTA Online currency. "Players with the disposable income to pay that will pay it. It's the best of both worlds, and it's the norm for AAA games these days."

Elliott said Rockstar could charge $100 for GTA 6's base edition if it wanted to because data shows that people are ready and willing to pay extra for a game they really want. However, Elliott said Rockstar may not "charge more than it needs to," and ultimately, Elliott believes Rockstar will settle on $80.

Elliott shared these thoughts after Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter told The Telegraph that he expects GTA 6 to cost $100 for the base edition.

Take-Two will release its next earnings report and take questions for analysts on August 7, at which time the company may share more about its plans for GTA 6. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

After a delay, GTA 6 is now set for release on May 26, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
