He did also make a point that there eventually will be a time when all older hardware reaches its limits, and that service for said hardware may have to come to an end, but that he'll also "be sure to provide clear reasoning for that decision when I communicate it to the players."

Final Fantasy 14's most recent expansion Dawntrail was released last year, kicking off a new overarching storyline for the first time since A Realm Reborn. There's still no word on the next expansion, but you can read GameSpot's Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail review to get a feel for what's to come.
