Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S launches for Switch 2 on June 5

The Switch 2 Launch Day Puzzle Game Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S Is Available For Preorder

The Switch 2's launch lineup includes upgraded versions of Nintendo first-party Switch 1 games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, but several third-party games will also have new Switch 2 versions available on day one, including Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S. The game is a new Switch 2 version of the latest entry in Sega's puzzle-matching series, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, that first launched on Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC in 2021. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S will include a new 2v2 Puyo Tetris Doubles mode and support for the Joy-Con 2's mouse controls. Preorders are available for $50 ahead of its June 5 release. If you’re seeking a fun puzzle game to play between bouts of Mario Kart World, consider giving it a closer look.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S comes with all the content of the original Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, including 40 playable characters with their own stats and skills--with familiar faces like Sonic the Hedgehog making an appearance--as well as support for local and online play, and multiple game modes, including a massive Adventure mode that gives you increasingly difficult challenges to overcome. As mentioned above, this Switch 2-exclusive version adds the new 2v2 Puyo Tetris Doubles mode and support for mouse controls with the Joy-Con 2.

While Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is a Switch 2 version of the original Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, it's worth mentioning that it does not have an upgrade path option for those who already own the Nintendo Switch version of Puyo Puyo Tetris 2--meaning if you want the new Switch 2 content, you have to buy Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S. This is true for all of Sega's Switch 2 versions of Switch 1 games that are currently announced for launch day. This differs from Nintendo's first-party Switch 2 Edition games like Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV, or Kirby and the Forgetten Land + Star-crossed World, all of which are available as full-priced games, or as $10-$20 upgrades for those who own the Switch 1 versions of the game.

The good news is, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is one of the cheapest Switch 2 launch games at just $40; the only other day-one title priced that low is Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remastered. First-party titles will cost $70-$80, making something like Puyo Puyo a frugal alternative.

It's also worth pointing out that Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is one of the few Switch 2 games available to preorder at Amazon. You won't find Nintendo-published games available at Amazon, but third-party games are all listed, including the rest of Sega's launch lineup like Yakuza 0 Director's Cut and Sonic X Shadow Generations, as well as games like Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, Hitman: World of Assassination - Signature Edition, and more.
