Amazon Is Releasing An Exclusive RoboCop 2: 4K Steelbook Edition Featuring New Cover Art

The Amazon-exclusive RoboCop 2: 4K Steelbook Edition launches July 15
While it might lack the razor-sharp satire of the original, RoboCop 2 is still a rock-solid action movie and worth having in any Blu-ray collection dedicated to the '90s. For fans of steelbook covers, a new run of RoboCop 2 in 4K is on the way, and you can preorder it exclusively through Amazon for $45 ahead of its release on July 15.
The new steelbook cover art is inspired by the final clash between RoboCop and his menacing replacement--the hulking machine known as RoboCop 2.0. The two-disc set includes the film in 4K--scanned from the original camera negatives--and the second standard Blu-ray comes with a wide selection of bonus materials, which we've outlined below.

RoboCop 2 picks up not long after the original, and it deals with the insidious Omni Consumer Products corporation's plans to buy and renovate the city of Old Detroit. Having privatized the police force, OCP deliberately sabotages the department during the middle of a drug epidemic orchestrated by criminal mastermind Cain (Tom Noonan). At the same time, RoboCop (Peter Weller) is still looking to uphold the public trust and protect the innocent, while other people at OCP plot to replace him and move up the corporate ladder. While it's a suitable follow-up, it's also noticeably different in tone, lacking the original's not-so-subtle commentary aimed at a decade of greed and decadence. However, it more than makes up for it with its higher-stakes storyline, slick action sequences, and cheesy B-movie charm.
Anyone looking to revisit Old Detroit can check out the rest of the franchise on Blu-ray. In case the steelbook cover doesn't interest you, you can get RoboCop 2 on 4K or standard Blu-ray, and the original film is also available in these formats. RoboCop 3 has only been released on standard Blu-ray so far--it's not like a 4K cut can improve that infamously bad version of the film--and the 2014 remake is also available to purchase in 1080p and 4K formats. While the modern-day interpretation isn't anywhere as good as the original, it's also not nearly as bad as you'd think, and it still makes for a fun diversion on a cold night.
You can also pick up the 1994 RoboCop TV series on Blu-ray, but for completionists, it looks like there'll still be a gap in your collection as the two animated series--RoboCop: The Animated Series and RoboCop: Alpha Commando--and the live-action mini-series RoboCop: Prime Directives haven't gotten Blu-ray releases yet. Meanwhile, for anyone who has ever wanted to step into the robotic chassis and dole out some justice yourself, you can grab the excellent RoboCop: Rogue City on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The first-person shooter is a faithful video game adaptation of the source material, featuring an all-new storyline, and even sees Weller return as the voice of RoboCop..
