The classic horror saga finally arrives on 4K Blu-ray September 30, and there's even an Amazon-exclusive Steelbook Collection

Nightmare On Elm Street 7-Film 4K Blu-Ray Collection Is Up For Preorder

A Nightmare on Elm Street's 7-Film Steelbook Library Collection sold out fast when Amazon opened preorders for the exclusive $175 box set on June 11. This certainly wasn't surprising, but it was probably disappointing for longtime fans of the horror franchise, as this box set brings six of the entries in the series to 4K Blu-ray for the first time. Thankfully, it turns out that there's a standard edition version of the collection launching alongside the (still) sold-out Steelbook Library Collection on September 30.

Freddy Krueger fans can preorder A Nightmare on Elm Street: 7-Film Collection on 4K Blu-ray for $105 at Amazon.

A Nightmare on Elm Street's new collection comes with 4K Blu-ray and digital versions--with Movies Anywhere support--of the following movies:

  • A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984): Theatrical & Uncut versions
  • Freddy's Revenge (1985)
  • Dream Warriors (1987)
  • The Dream Master (1988)
  • The Dream Child (1989): Theatrical & Uncut versions
  • Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)
  • Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994)

The 1984 original released on 4K Blu-ray last fall and remains the only film in the series that has been restored in 4K UHD resolution. It's available for $19 (was $34) at Amazon. The Limited Edition Steelbook version was recently restocked at Amazon for $35.

The original series technically ends with 1991's The Final Nightmare, but the set includes the satirical 1994 film, Wes Craven's New Nightmare, in which Freddy is a fictional villain from a popular movie franchise.

All seven movies in the collection are presented in native 4K (2160p) resolution with support for HDR10. On the audio side, the collection offers Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD 7.1, and DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0.

Inside the box, you'll find a pair of 3D glasses, which can be used for certain parts in Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare.

As for bonus on-disc content, the uncut versions of the original and The Dream Child are included alongside all of the special features from the standard Blu-ray editions of each film. It's worth noting that the bonus features are presented in 1080p resolution and do not support HDR.

Heads up: The standard Blu-ray edition of the 7-Film Collection has been available for over a decade at this point, so you can generally find it for cheap. At the moment, it's up for grabs for only $24 (was $45).

Preorder at Amazon

As mentioned, the Amazon-exclusive Steelbook Library Collection is currently sold out. That said, Amazon notes that it is "temporarily out of stock," so it's likely we'll see at least one more restock before it's gone for good. We recommend double-checking the store page to see if it's still out of stock.

The Library Collection includes a unique steelbook case for each movie and is packaged in the large metal display case shown above. The stylized artwork on the covers looks really cool. You'll also receive a numbered certificate of authenticity. Only 4,000 of these sets are being produced.

It's worth mentioning that the cover art on last year's A Nightmare on Elm Street Limited Edition Steelbook is different from the case in the box set. The new cover art matches a limited-edition, region-free UK release bundled with a bunch of goodies.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984):

  • Limited Edition Steelbook (4K) -- $35
  • Ultimate Collector's Edition (4K, region-free) -- $70

Amazon-Exclusive Steelbook Library Collections

This is just one of numerous collector's edition 4K box sets with Amazon exclusivity. This new trend started with the Sean Connery James Bond Steelbook Library Collection that launched in June. And in July, Amazon revealed two additional Steelbook Library Collections beyond Elm Street: The Dark Knight Trilogy and Superman 5-Film Collection. At the time of writing, all four are sold out, and Elm Street is the only one that hints at a future restock:

  • A Nightmare on Elm Street: 7-Film Collection -- $175 | September 30
  • The Dark Knight Trilogy -- $130 | September 16
  • Superman 5-Film Collection -- $130 | September 2
  • 007: James Bond - Sean Connery 6-Film Collection -- $140

It's possible--likely even--that all of the movies in the collection will receive standalone 4K editions after the collection launches, similar to the Sean Connery James Bond movies. Like Elm Street, Connery's Bond movies had never been available on 4K Blu-ray before the 6-Film Collection. Also like Elm Street, the Bond collection has a standard 4K Blu-ray edition priced at $105. At the end of July, we learned that all six classic 007 films will also be sold separately starting September 23. Even if that happens with Elm Street, the $105 collection will almost certainly remain the preferred option from a value perspective. The Bond films would cost you $70 more than the box set if you purchased each one individually for $25-$30 each.
