Now Playing: Why We Gave Assassin's Creed Shadows An 8

The Critical Role reference that Luc mentioned was a collaboration with the Dungeons & Dragons group, which was a canonical event set in the world of Assassin's Creed Shadows. While it remains to be seen where the Templars will pop up next in the Assassin's Creed timeline, Ubisoft remained vague when asked about the game's lack of a modern-day storyline and if we'll see more of it in the future.

"We have complex new characters that were introduced in Shadows that we didn't feel there would have been enough spotlight for Basim as well," Luc explained. "With Assassin's Creed Shadows, we are putting in place the first stone of new means to deliver the modern-day storyline with the Animus hub. That is not the end of it, and we are listening to your feedback."

In other Assassin's Creed Shadows news, the Claws of Awaji expansion launches on September 16. This will be preceded by several quality-of-life upgrades in a September update, including several bug fixes, updates to the hideout, and a useful change to how synchronization works in the game. Ubisoft says that Assassin's Creed Shadows crossed the 5-million-players mark and the live-action Netflix series adaptation of the franchise just took another step forward.
