Players can choose from a cast of superheroes, with some new characters and others making their return from the original 2016 title. As they race through retro-futuristic levels, players can collect upgrades and items to get ahead of the pack or knock their competitors off screen, as the competitors scramble to survive in an ever-shrinking ring of fire.

With SpeedRunners now almost a decade old, the sequel aims to elevate aspects of the original game from both a visual and gameplay perspective, while still staying true to the feel of the 2010s platformer that fans loved.

SpeedRunners 2 is developed by Fair Play Labs, which previously worked on the Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl series, in collaboration with publisher TinyBuild. The game was announced during the Triple-I Initiative indie gaming showcase. TinyBuild hasn't said when in 2025 SpeedRunners 2 will be released, but players can wishlist the game on Steam for more info.
